This site is all about pretentiousness and the amazing glare it casts. It pierces anyone who has enough balls to say they don’t think shit thrown on canvas is art. If you are passing something off as art, yet your ‘art’ could be remarkably mistaken for the same crap you threw up in the air when you first started to “open your mind and embrace your creativity”, then it isn’t art, it is your hobby and an annoying one at that.
Here in Austin, TX….everyone is an artist. People that beg me for food on Monday, are turning around and selling me a painting Friday. As seen by this fiasco of counter-culture’s creation. ‘Open-mindedness’ that I imagine only Austin and the city 99% of all Austinites wish they were from, San Francisco, could get behind. We are not all artists and like a lady friend once said to me “If I could accidentally do it when I was 5, it isn’t art.”
“What is (abstract) art?” “I dunno—but I think it’s got something to do with the gays.”
Seriously abstract art is a social phenomenon that someone is still laughing about. Jackson Pollack woke up one day and realized and embraced a certain few facts of human nature.
1.We find it nearly impossible to admit we don’t understand something, if we think others do.
2. We don’t want to be wrong.
3. If we look up to someone, say a leader in culture (this case - art), we tend to agree and adopt.
Convince a few pretentious, delusional social heads something is great, (or at least convince them to convince others) and you’ve got a chance for a snowball effect of magnificent proportions. Because there is always someone that is cocky enough to try and sell their ridiculous vision, just to test and see if the people intent on sucking them off will buy it. Abstract art took these core truths and made love to them, rather vigorously, and perhaps we should acknowledge abstract art for that reason alone.
It is the single most successful bullshit lovechild thrown our way the human race has ever bought.
So please…..create some absolutely inane art (photographs, photoshops, whatever) and share it with me.
